When producing my CD "By The Blood Of The Lamb" in 2003, I first thought to call the album "TRANSITION", as the songs reflect
a unique time of transition, or movement of a soul (mine) from what can only be called 'fleshly' Christianity
into 'spiritual' Christianity; in prayer however, the Lord gave me the title "By The Blood Of The Lamb", since it was only
the shedding of His precious blood on Calvary, and our accessing the power of that blood, that makes any of this possible.
For me, the realization of this was so profound it was almost like being "born again", again! ...especially
after being a Christian missionary in foreign mission fields for 14 years before this discovery! Now, this may
sound ridiculous to you, but both my wife and I, and many others, spent many years in a so-called "Christian" group that for
several years strongly promoted evangelism, soul-winning and missionary activity worldwide, but then sadly veered off onto
a path of virtual man-worship and total disobedience to the Word of God. I will not name the group or their activities, as
I feel it would be giving place to the devil and glorifying his works; suffice to say that it was only by setting our hearts
and minds steadfastly to OBEY ONLY THE LORD AND HIS WORD that we were set free from that bondage. ("Now the Lord is the Spirit;
and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty." -2 Corinthians 3:17.) We were on a foreign mission field at the time,
where there was a small Christian bookstore that carried dusty (and cheap!) paperback copies of classic Christian writers,
and my search to rediscover the reality of my faith began in earnest. And it paid off wonderfully, for as Jesus said, "...every
one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened." Matthew 7:8. Now by
no means do I imply that I "have attained", but I can only describe it as a simple deepening of the reality of my faith in
Jesus Christ, through the knowledge of His Holy Spirit as the Agent and Advocate of Christ in my mind, heart and soul. The
reality of His Presence and Comfort had been hinted at all those years during my Christian service, but the moment I understood
the secret of His Presence, through the writings of Andrew Murray, Roy Hession, Jessie Penn-Lewis, and many others, I experienced
a burst of joy and assurance that flooded my soul in a moment of time! And it continues, by God's grace, to be a daily
experience, as I now believe it should be for EVERY CHRISTIAN, as even the best of us needs to continually return to Him afresh,
every day. In the words of the late Roy Hession, "It is not, be filled tomorrow, when we hope we shall have improved, but
be filled NOW in the midst of our failure and current need -as we are, where we are. And after this now, the next now. Such
an experience of present tense blessedness for needy people can only be possible as we are given a new sight of the grace
of God making every blessing available on street level. It is in this context we are to hear the word, 'be filled with the
Spirit'." (from Be Filled Now, 1968, Christian Literature Crusade, Fort Washington, Pa.) I wrote the songs on this album
to remind myself, and I would hope other Christians, to continue to experience this wonderful REALITY of our faith,
by focusing on the Crucified Christ. In union with Him, our self, ego, the "I", the 'flesh', our "old man", sinful nature,
or whatever you want to call it, can be kept in the place of death, at Calvary, and we are free to be that new creature described
in 2 Corinthians 5:17, born into new life in and with the Resurrected Jesus, and filled with the power and presence of His
blessed Holy Spirit. As Reverend Murray put it, "Beloved Christian, whose hope is in the blood of the cross, give yourself
up to experience its full blessing. Each drop of that blood points to the surrender and death of self-will...the "I" life...as
the way to God and victorious life in Him." And, "Are you willing to ascend the altar, the place of death? Are you willing
to make the Cross your abode, the place where you will pass every hour of your life in fellowship with the crucifed Jesus?"(both
quotes from Murray's book, "The Blood Of The Cross"). In 'The Spirit Of Christ' he wrote, "It is indeed no wonder that, as
the Holy Spirit came down from the Father through the glorified Son, the disciples' whole nature was filled to overflowing
with the joy and power of heaven. They were filled with the presence of Jesus". So there is really nothing new here, just
simple Christianity. What's truly NEW, and what inspired me to write the songs on my album, "By The Blood Of The Lamb", is
OUR experience of the fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit every day in our own lives, and in the lives of those we touch.

You can’t judge a CD by its cover. This has a powerful image of a cross of lightning, and the font style looks darkly
gothic. What of the music? It defies categorisation. A mature folky voice (coy about his age, Holcross admits to being a granddad),
some great acoustic guitar and it turns out that thanks to Korg recording equipment, this is a genuine one man band. Well,
congratulations Mr Holcross, it all sounds pretty good to me. Reminds me a bit of The Waterboys in places, some great blues
too. Check out his website for the lowdown and the story of the cover design.
